Re:Interactive City Welcome - 2006/04/27 01:02 Dear Anthony,
Like says it Tatiana <Shanghai> it is historically the <port> of the history and the modern world with the tragedy of the second world war. Shanghai was during a few years a free island for populations of various cultures before. Against an old Utopia I am more for a Atopie present. So, local memory in front of global technology is a possible <electronic> vision.
All the best, fr_nck A

Re:Interactive City Welcome - 2006/04/27 01:10 It might be that new utopias can still be constructed.

One way of looking at it, as has been suggeted by Morgan and Portella, is that former utopias were often based on nations supposed to be modern at a certain point in history. France for the European monarchies after 1789, "The American Dream" in the Europe of the 50ies, "Skandinavian style and beauty" for postwar Germans, ... With a global deadlock of threats, war and economic crisis, as we experience it now, there is no super-hero nation or country which could serve as a mould for utopian dreams. An utopia would probably to be cross-national, cross-cultural and thereby much harder to identify.

Re:Interactive City Welcome - 2006/04/27 01:31 To go in the way of the Utopia it is necessary to learn how to forget the limits of its identity <Atopia = Taopia> towards a different identity which can test... remains to know where? when? how? In an Interactive City, perhaps!

New Utopia - 2006/04/27 11:03 I want to open up a slightly different channel of discussion based on something in your abstract, that of the issue of "orchestrated representation" of immaterial fluxes. The term orchestration raises the artist to the status of director, while simultaneously giving over to some degree the personal expression of the artist for the poetics and potential of the group, a trend not limited to creative fields.
Artist becomes strategist, and tactician, operative terms that have no formal expression, rather the goal becomes more of creating environments of potential. As an architect, this is something that speaks very strongly to me.
Can you elaborate on some of the issues you've encountered in your work that technology has created and abated in this context?
