Jon Brumit is a San Francisco Bay Area conceptual artist working predominantly with collaboration, simultanaiety, social situations, sound, and structured improvisation. He designs tools, instruments, and scenarios for interaction which often produce unpredictable results - occasionally humorous and often highly interpretable - typically arising from public spectacles, dynamic failures and intentionally problematized and mutil-layered constructions and interventions. Solo projects include 'Door to Door', 'Vendetta Retreat', and 'BYOBW'. Collaborative projects include Neighborhood Public Radio, Sliv & Dulet Enterprises, and numerous performance installations such as 'Crossover' and 'Strip Club'. His solo and collaborative works and projects have been regularly exhibited, presented, and performed locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally his work has been featured or reviewed in print and broadcast media such as the San Francisco Chronicle, Artforum, Punk Planet and ReadyMade Magazines, as well as Discovery Channel International, NBC's Tech Now, the Associated Press, and KQED's television show 'Spark'. His projects have recieved funding through the Oakland Arts Council, CEC ArtsLink, and SF Recycling. He has been awarded residencies in Serbia, Germany, Maine, and California, and has been commissioned to produce new works and performances by the Presidio Trust, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Amoeba Records, the Pacific Film Archive, and the Novi Sad Contemporary Museum.
