Bill Viola is an internationally recognized artist and a pioneer in the history of video art. He has been instrumental in establishing video as a vital form of contemporary art and has worked to expand the medium through the use of technology, content and historical reach. By utilizing medieval and classical depictions of human experience, his video installations employ state-of-the-art technologies while touching the emotional and spiritual lives of ordinary people. His videos communicate to a wide audience, employing subjectivity and memory so that viewers may experience the work directly and in their own personal way.
