Karolina Sobecka works with interactivity, installations, video, animation and other new and old media. Her art and design are daily basis attempts at making our world more beautiful and meaningful. Her artistic interest is strongly stimulated by the advances in science, technology and philosophy that shape our understanding of ourselves and our world. Karolina was born in Warsaw, Poland, and educated in a tradition which left her prepared to fight her ideological battles. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was trained in fine arts and where she started experimenting with animation and digital arts. Karolina attended California Institute of the Arts for her Masters degree in programs of Experimental Animation and Integrated Media. Her interests got distilled into examining the ways of creating meaning, and resulted in works such as "Darkfield". She started working with interactive installations, creating complex dynamics between viewer's actions and his perceptions in works such as "Pornographic Pursuit" or "Seeing". While at Calarts she also started to work commercially as a designer and animator, contributing to the visual language that pervades our media saturated lives. She sees it as a worthwhile effort to work hard at making this language as beautiful and meaningful as possible, shaping a visually sophisticated society. Currently, Karolina resides in Seattle, where she creates her art and motion graphics. Her work has been shown at festivals and galleries around the world, most recently at Trampoline Festival, Nottingham, UK, New Forms Festival, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Machine Gallery, Los Angeles, CA.
