EVOLUTION OF OPEN CONTROL SJ 2006

Marko Peljhan, Samo Stopar, Nejc Trost, Dan Overholt

The world is grown so bad that wrens make prey where eagles dare not perch...

Shakespeare, Richard III

An experimental flight test regime of 10 days is planned for November 2006 in the Mojave desert. Two pre production C-ASTRAL platforms will also be flown in the Antarctic in January/February 2007 as part of the first Interpolar Transnational Art Science Constellation Dronning Maudland expedition as part of the Ladomir Antarctic Base survey team. The architectural and systems vision of the Ladomir Antarctic Base will also be presented as part of the exhibition.

The presentation of CIVIL COUNTER RECONNAISSANCE - EVOLUTION OF OPEN CONTROL SJ 2006 as part of this year's ISEA 2006 is part of the long term strategy developed by Marko Peljhan and the Pact Systems team that is aimed towards an independent civil society controlled and managed UAV fleet for art/science/tactical media purposes. The C-ASTRAL family of UAV's has been developed by Nejc Trost, Samo Stopar and Peljhan as an experimental cornerstone for an autonomous sensor carrying platform. The first controlled flight happened in July 2005, the first autonomous flight in March 2006.
