Julie Freeman has been a practicing artist since 1994. Her work involves digital technology to re-interpret and modify processes from technological and biological systems, in order to create and/or reveal alternative meanings. The resulting dynamic and responsive art works have a clean visual aesthetic, which is shaped via interaction and communication by external influences such as human and animal presence or environmental phenomena. Freeman is a graduate of the MA in Digital Arts at the Centre for Electronic Arts, London, and a NESTA fellow. Her work has generated media coverage ranging from the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World through to Women’s Hour and constantly provides a platform for discussion. Other work has been exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art (London), the Science Museum (London) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park as well as internationally as part of the art group Spore. |
