Luc De Meester is professor in ecology and evolution at the University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven, Belgium). He heads a research group on evolutionary ecology and aquatic ecology in the Laboratory of Aquatic Ecology at K.U.Leuven. He studied biology at the University of Gent and defended his PhD at this university. He benefited from a postdoctoral stay at the Max-Planck-Institute for Limnology in Plön, Germany. He is author of more than100 international peer-reviewed publications, mainly dealing with evolutionary ecology, community ecology, and population genetics of aquatic organisms, often using the water flea Daphnia as a model organism. He developed a strong interest in studying the interface between ecological and evolutionary processes, e.g. to what extent and how evolutionary responses influence ecological processes, and to what extent patterns of diversity and trait distributions develop in parallel at the population and community level. |
