Non-SAG male actor or performance artist wanted in San Jose for prestigious week-long festival of new media Aug 7-12 2006
Seeking:
REMEDIOS THE SQUIRREL CUB: 21-40 year old male, indie-rocker type in a squirrel helmet/head piece and tail, who acts as Karaoke MC, ice cream truck driver and master of cheap magic.
Think “Ghost World” record store salesman: stooped, slightly morose, and quirky. Remedios is the ice cream truck’s best friend, its driver, master of ceremonies and should know bad magic tricks involving handkerchiefs, smoke cookies, knots, sleights of hand, smoke and juggling. As he is mute, physical acting abilities are a must.
Karaoke Ice is a public art project by award-winning artists Marina Zurkow, Katie Salen and Nancy Nowacek. It will premiere in San Jose for the ZeroOne: Art on the Edge Biennial August 7- 13, 2006 (http://isea2006.sjsu.edu/).
Karaoke Ice is part mobile karaoke recording stage, and part ice cream truck, giving away free icy pops and providing a karaoke stage for audiences to perform popular songs recomposed in the vernacular of tinkly ice cream truck music. More info on the project and artists’ bios are available at http://www.o-matic.com/isea
