Augmenting your neighbourhood with everyday media

Lotte Meijer, Matthew Biederman, Adam Hyde , Erin Moore

Story Spots aims to augment neighbourhoods with its own stories. Simpel (including Erin Moore) visits communities and makes recordings from local residents, re-embedding them in community spaces through the use of audio postcards. Along with the recorded stories, images related to the story are copied onto each audio postcard, and story boards (containing several audio postcards) are placed on spots - hence the term Story Spots. The stories are from the community and for the community. The first version of Story Spots has been co-hosted in San Jose by the Northside Community Center in Japantown, which is a center for the local Filipino American community.

The project has been informed and inspired by many locative and augmented media projects. While the theory and discourse is preserved through the project, the required high end technology barriers are removed.

Story Spots is a locative media project for those that have never heard of locative media.
