Jack Stenner is an artist who has worked with digital media since the mid 1990s. His work revolves around issues related to our socio-culturally constructed “reality” and the ways we create meaning from our environment. He is interested in form, space, place and the ways meaning is embedded and manipulated. Combining techniques from information retrieval and visualization, content analysis, motion tracking, video gaming, computer aided design and experimental video, he seeks to create experiences that encourage us to reconsider what we think we know about our world. His research is an extension of these concerns and focuses on the adaptations necessary to utilize media in contexts differing from their original intention. Using the video game based installation Playas:Homeland Mirage, he studies ways that critical distance and the communicative power of motion imagery can be fostered in the hybrid game/installation environment. He holds a Bachelors of Environmental Design, and Masters of Computer Visualization from Texas A&M University. He is currently completing his Ph.D and is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media in the School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida. URLs http://www.jigglingwhisker.com/ISEA.html |
