A Global Festival of Art on the Ege

History

The ZeroOne San Jose Global Festival of Art on the Edge is an outgrowth of the 1997 Regional Cultural Plan for Silicon Valley, or what is known as the southern portion of Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area, a metropolitan region with a population of over seven million and the 10th largest city in the United States (population 945,000). A significant feature of the 1997 Regional Cultural Plan was the concept of a large international festival that connected Silicon Valley’s extraordinary technology resources with artistic talent from California, the nation and the world.

The San Jose 8

In 2003, a coalition of eight organizations, the "San Jose 8," was formed to carry this initiative forward. Each of these organizations, the City of San Jose, Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley, Montalvo Arts Center, San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau, San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose State University, and The Tech Museum of Innovation is represented on the board of ZeroOne: The Art and Technology Network, an independent nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to conduct a biennial festival that will offer attendees compelling experiences made possible at the intersection of art and digital culture. ZeroOne is the producing organization for ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge and the 13th International Symposium of Electronic Arts (ISEA2006).
